Experiments in Architecture: Time, Space & Play

In this course, students become architects of time, space, and play! They design observation decks with sundials and other architectural instruments to explore and understand time by playing with sunlight and shadows. While working on shared gardens, students learn to combine different geometries, experiment with modular walls and playful layouts, and carefully placing each piece to create an intersecting garden space. As a final project, they design game tables with multiple pieces, where tabletop activities range from board games and cooking together on small grills to growing plants and feeding birds, all guided by a set of design rules. Each piece fits together, forming a hands-on coding puzzle where shapes and activities connect to create an engaging, interactive experience. These experiments in architecture help students develop spatial and logical thinking while exploring geometry and shadows in playful ways.
