Get ready for one of the most egg-citing event!🥚🚒

Can you create a contraption that will protect an egg from a 60+ foot drop? The Kirkland Fire Department will be here with their ladder truck (as long as they don’t receive an emergency call) to see whose egg will survive!  Egg contraptions will be dropped in groups based on grade level.

*All grade levels are welcome to participate*

Rules:

  • Students can work individually or with others to build a contraption. Once built, student name AND grade level need to be visible for us to track if the egg survives the fall.
  • Bring your own egg! We ask that you provide your own egg, as we are unable to insert them into the contraptions the morning of drop off. If possible, please put your egg in a plastic baggy as well to save on cleanup.
  • Size Requirements – your contraption needs to be about shoebox size. If it is larger than this it will be up to the organizers’ discretion whether we’ll be able to drop it or not. (this is not intended to be a way to disqualify students, but again a way to make sure we have the space to send contraptions up to the Fire Department).
  • No Balloons. This rule is in place to allow us to have as many participants as possible, balloons often take up too much space in the buckets we send up to the Fire Department.
  • Nothing messy – this is a general request. Please don’t pack your contraption with food or goop that might create a lot of extra cleanup.
  • Have your contraption ready to drop – we will be unable to “set up” your contraption to drop the day of, so please have it prepared.

Turn your contraption in – we need your contraption dropped off the morning of the event, June 3rd between 8:50 and 9:10 at the upper lot drop off.

Don't forget to label the contraption with the student's name and grade.

👉 Click here to complete the form by Thursday, May 29th so we can finalize the list of participants.

Groups only need to turn in one form, not one per individual.

Things to consider as you build:

  • How can you keep the egg safe? (slow it’s fall, absorb impact, etc)
  • Did you do any research for ideas? (asking friends, searching the internet, experimenting at home)
  • Does your contraption follow the rules?

Ideas for materials to use: cardboard, packing materials, fabric, tape, newspaper, rubber bands, sponges, cardboard tubes, glue, trash bags, and string.
