HIP HOP - By House of Dance - Shay Levine

Get ready to groove with our Hip-Hop Dance Classes! Inspired by Hip- Hop and Pop dance, each session is packed with energetic warm-ups, stretching, and dynamic dance games to keep the fun going. Students will dive into a mix of isolation movements, progressions across the floor, and exciting choreography. They'll have the opportunity to express themselves creatively while collaborating with others and learning to work as a team!

Shay Levine is a dynamic and influential figure in the dance community, serving as the WNBA Seattle Storm Dance Troupe Director for an impressive 10 seasons. Under her leadership, the Hip Hop Dance Team has flourished, growing from 35 dancers in her first season to over 100 auditions for just 14 spots this year. This rapid increase in interest highlights her ability to inspire and cultivate talent, with many of her dancers going on to pursue professional careers in Los Angeles or touring with renowned musical artists. One notable achievement includes a former dancer performing on stage with Gwen Stefani and appearing in multiple famous artists music videos.

Shay's commitment to her dancers extends beyond choreography; she ensures they are compensated for their hard work, receiving payment for practices and all home games. She coordinates over 40 performances throughout the Storm season, showcasing her organizational skills and dedication to her team.

In addition to directing the troupe, Shay is a passionate dancer herself. She actively trains by attending workshops and intensives, including the Ladies of Hip Hop event in New York and advanced classes in LA with industry professionals like Galen Hooks. Her extensive training includes mentorship from renowned Bboys and Bgirls, and she is currently part of the advanced Heels program at Z Theory. Her recent work includes dancing in a professional music video for an up-and-coming artist, further illustrating her dedication to the craft.

Shay's impact on youth dance extends beyond the Storm. With 20 years of experience working with junior high and high school competitive dance teams, she has coached, consulted, choreographed, and helped teams achieve remarkable success, including winning WIAA State Titles. Notably, she led Gig Harbor High School to its first WIAA Hip Hop State Champion title in 2022, where they achieved the highest score out of 101 routines, beating teams across all performance categories.

As a WA State WIAA Dance Judge for 16 years and a teacher at various dance studios, Shay has made significant contributions to the dance community. Her professional experience includes performing for the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Mammoth, and John Elway's Arena Football League, as well as participating in a recent commercial for Seattle's Fox 13 and dancing in music videos for artists like Ali Diane.

Above all, Shay Levine's true passion lies in dance and inspiring others. Her primary goal is to make dance fun and accessible for youth of all ages and abilities, encouraging them to embrace their individuality and confidence through movement. Shay firmly believes that everyone can and should dance, and her enthusiasm for Hip Hop is infectious, leaving a lasting impact on all who have the pleasure of learning from her.
