ON YOUR MARKS...the Lakeview Half-Marathon is starting soon! 

 

The Half-Marathon is a special two-week event in which students can run, walk, or even skip laps around the field during recess. The goal is to get the kids moving while having fun and fostering a sense of community and school spirit.

 

The Half-Marathon will take place during lunch recess every day from Monday, April 27th through Friday, May 8th and is an optional activity. 

 

Milestones and Awards:

Students who complete at least a half mile will earn a necklace with a leopard paw bead for participating. Students will then earn one sneaker bead for each mile they complete. There are special beads awarded for milestones such as:

  • Finishing a 10K (6.2 miles)
  • A half-marathon (13.1 miles)
  • A marathon (26.2 miles) 

Lakeview Marathon Course

Half mile = 3 laps

One mile = 6 laps

10K (6.2 miles) = 38 laps 

Half-Marathon (13.1 miles) = 79 laps 

Marathon (26.2 miles) = 158 laps

Ready to help make the Half-Marathon a success? We need volunteers to scan laps during recess, as well as someone to help the daily event lead with setup/cleanup and logistics.

 

Scanning volunteer slots are less than an hour - come check it out and join the fun!

Be a Class Bead & Necklace Coordinator

We need one volunteer from each class to be in charge of the necklace and bead distribution each week (for two weeks). The volunteer will be responsible for:

 

  1. Collecting the classroom box Friday 5/1 and Friday 5/8 (can be sent home with your child).

  2. Logging into the marathon ezTally database over the weekend and allocating necklaces and beads earned by each student.

  3. Returning the box with beads/necklaces on Monday 5/4 and Monday 5/11 (can be sent back with your child).
